Today I am less of a believer in the privacy benefits of cash. It seems like the ATM could record the serial numbers of every bill given out and deposited, which would give a fairly accurate view of your spending with cash. — nytimes.com/2020/01/23/nyregio

@ted I'm perfectly with the *state institutions* to watch over my spendings if needed for security/justice purposes. I'm less fine with *private businesses* to track my spendings. I doubt that private businesses can get access to the history of a banknote.

@mardy I think there are only a handful of ATM manufacturers.

I don't believe that governments are the only ones with enough information to deanonymize cash.
