Family history

My father just sent me my great-aunt Arlene's ten-page summary of her obsessively-researched history of the Anthony family history (at the time of writing, in 1997, the full extent of the research took up six filing cabinets).

Apparently my family history involves piracy, the expulsion of Catholicism from England, and what appears to be at least one Roma or Sephardic member of the tree. (Don't worry, I won't use that to claim heritage, it's just interesting!)

@noelle to be curious was Anthony your grandmother's family or your grandfather's?

I've done some genealogy work and been surprised how patriarchal the whole system is especially considering it is supposed to be based on "genetics" which would give equal weight to both the mother and father's genes.

@ted Arlene was my grandfather's sister. And yeah, it's odd how little is recorded about the women in historical documents.

@noelle in doing the research, it is hard to find maiden names. An exciting event when you get one!
