A simple thing that would make Go infinitely better as a programming language would be if nil didn't satisfy any interfaces. This couldn't work:

play.golang.org/p/rMc67_p5BM4

It would remove a huge opportunity to create panics, and probably a significant amount of error handling code worrying about them.

The core problem in making this change is that errors are passed as nil for no error, when really there should be an errors.NoError that is checked instead.

Can't say that I'm surprised at this breakdown, but interesting to see how the world has split on a map. — feedproxy.google.com/~r/bigthi

In a lobby that has ESPN News playing and the commentators have their Instagram handles displayed instead of their Twitter ones.

Twitter has always owned sports, seems to be changing.

I've always assumed that subject lines for emails should be written in title case. But, I can't think of anywhere that's actually suggested.

What casing do you use for your e-mail subject lines?

I keep getting spam offering image processing services from a "Lena". Which I find humorous because of the old sexist test image in image processing:

I'm guessing the spammer has no idea about it, or the history, and it is just random. But a nice alignment of randomness.

#UNICEF wants to invest in #FreeSoftware "The Fund provides investment-style funding for early-stage, #OpenSource technology solutions that address the most pressing challenges faced by children and young people", further "UNICEF requires that all code, content or hardware developed and tested be open source and be publicly available."... Great initiative! ungm.org/Public/Notice/82482

Have been futzing around with this code as I was trying to add a feature and it was harder than it should be. Finally untangled everything and got the architecture right.

It is simply amazing how much easier the right architecture makes the tests come together and increases coverage.

These are things I know, but still impress me every time it works out.

Apparently ATSC 2.0 (over-the-air TV in the US) got dropped in favor of going directly to ATSC 3.0, because it allows targeted ads.

I understand why stations want this, but I'm befuddled that they think they can achieve it with an open standard. The devices are sold to consumers, so the features need to be consumer oriented.

It seems likely to result in disappointment.

There are also privacy concerns, but those have been punted to the FTC: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATSC_3.0
